Crab Sukka

A beloved coastal delicacy that embodies the essence of seafood cuisine. This aromatic dish features tender crab meat simmered to perfection in a medley of spices, creating a symphony of taste and texture that delights the senses.

At its core, Crab Sukka is a celebration of fresh, succulent crab paired with a robust blend of spices.
What sets this dish apart is the masala powder – a meticulously crafted blend of coconut, garlic, and Rovenas Chk Sukka Masala. This special masala adds depth and complexity to the dish, with its perfectly balanced ingredients enhancing the natural sweetness of the crab meat without overpowering it.

Ingredients:

For cooking crabs
- 1kg cleaned crab
- 1 raw mango, peeled and chopped ( you can use lemon size Tamarind or lemon juice )
- 1 large onion, finely chopped
- 2 green chilies, slit
- 1-inch ginger, grated
- 1 tsp salt, or to taste
- 1 tsp turmeric powder
- 1 cup water

For masala
- 2 cups grated coconut
- 6 cloves garlic
- 2½ tbsp Rovenas Chk Sukka Masala

For Tempering
- 2 tbsp oil
- 1 onion, thinly sliced
- Curry leaves for tempering

Instructions:

  1. In a large cooking pot, combine the cleaned crab, chopped raw mango, finely chopped onion, slit green chilies, grated ginger, salt, turmeric powder, and water. Mix well and cover the pot. Allow the crabs to cook over medium heat until they are tender, stirring occasionally. Once cooked, remove from heat and set aside.
  2. In a separate bowl, mix together the grated coconut, garlic cloves, and Rovenas Chk Sukka Masala. (You can use any other Powder)Use your hands or a grinder to blend the ingredients into a coarse paste. Set aside.
  3. Heat oil in a pan over medium heat. Add the thinly sliced onion and sauté until golden brown.
  4. Add the prepared coconut masala mixture to the cooked pan.Mix well to combine.
  5. Allow the Crab Sukka to simmer for a few more minutes, stirring occasionally, to allow the flavors to meld together.
  6. In a Tempering pan heat ghee and fry till they are browned. add curry leaves. Once they start to sizzle, pour the tempering over the Crab Sukka and give it a final stir.
  7. Serve hot Crab Sukka with steamed rice or crusty bread for a delicious coastal-inspired meal.
